Ethnic Jewelry Photo Album (4 of 16)

Jordanian rectangular charm case (hijab) with gold crescent. Pendant chains culminate in a sand cast crescent and cedar trees to which gold disks have been attached.

While pendants of this type were worn as late as the 1950s/60s, this piece was produced shortly after World War I, perhaps by Yousef Faghal.. an Arabian silversmith who came to Jordan in 1921. The chain, as shown, is original with cast elements, typical of the work of Kerak silversmiths who followed the style of Yousef.
