Ethnic Jewelry Photo Album (14 of 16)

Large, heavy choker, kirdan, from Palestine, produced either in Jordan (Irbid, Kerak) or in Nablus. One of the finest pieces to come out of Palestine in the last few decades.

According to one author, these pieces continued to be produced and worn in some areas through the 1950s. Note the fringe of glass beads and the mid-level insets which once held small blue glass or turquoise beads. Late 19th - Early 20th century.
