Ma'in Hot Springs

Set deep within the Wadi Zarqa Ma'in canyon in the Madaba Governorate, the thermal springs of Ma'in — Hammamat Ma'in — are among the most spectacular natural bathing sites in the region. Sixty-three mineral springs emerge from the basalt walls at temperatures between 45°C and 60°C, cascading in tiered waterfalls into rock pools at 264 metres below sea level. The waters are rich in sodium, calcium, magnesium and sulphur and have been sought for their therapeutic properties since antiquity; Herod the Great is among the historical figures recorded as a visitor.

The main waterfall, roughly five metres high, is the iconic centrepiece of the gorge — wide enough to stand beneath and suffused with warm mineral mist year-round. The adjacent Ma'in Hot Spring Resort provides formal spa facilities and accommodation; day visitors can access the waterfall pools directly. The combination of geological drama and genuine therapeutic tradition distinguishes Ma'in from conventional spa destinations.

Ma'in lies 74km south of Amman, a one-hour drive, and 27km west of Madaba. It pairs naturally with Madaba's mosaic churches and Mount Nebo, 30km northeast, and the Dead Sea resorts a further 27km downhill. The springs flow year-round; winter and spring offer the most atmospheric gorge conditions.
